This is a common problem. There are 3 shelves facing into the center of the map accessible from different directions. You have to make sure there are no items on those shelves and you should be able to proceed.

Well like said it is hard say what is the most damage dealing build. While a mage might do a lot of damage with a single attack they have slow attacks and run out of energy quite rapidly. I gave it to my sword fighter to get that skill level 50 perk asap. I would advise to give it someone who has the most powerful late game ability so he can get it sooner. For a fire mage the circle of protection (32 points perk) is really useful. Because your fire spells are useless against those fire dudes you can compensate that with a huge fire resistance for the whole party. 18 points to spellcraft should be enough.

I played side by side fighter and rogue unarmed and I vote rogue because of dodge. with the dex stats from unarmed and the evasions from dodge especially at 24 I hardly got touched where as my fighter had to rely on protection and it was by far lower than my rogues evasion near the end game. Nearest one I have is on the start of level 10. I could alternatively give you a save game at the beginning of the game where you play as Toorum. I think you need just bring his bones back to crystal. On steam you get "Buddies with Toorum achievement" for that. I just tried toorum mode and it works for me when I name my first character Toorum and hit enter (no need to click anything).

That is if you saved Toorum in your first playthrough. Just start a new game and name your first character toorum and click play.
