Re: Old school gaming Vs New games : Thoughts
Now Dark Forces, that was a truly brilliant game.

Re: Game designers being plain unfair
Hmm, another good example would be the times in games where you're absolutely kicking the proverbial crap out of the enemy, the sort of ass-kicking there is no recovery from. And then a scripted event goes and forces you to lose/die/etc. That goes in the same category as having a game with ressurre...

Re: Old school gaming Vs New games : Thoughts
I don't know about CRPGs, but I would bet a lot of old games would be a lot shorter if you didn't have to start the game over after running out of lives. Not talking about Mario types :p (Well i'm not, but games with a 'lives' mechanic, I don't doubt you're right.) Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy t...

Re: Old school gaming Vs New games : Thoughts
I enjoy the occasional hard game like this one but I am glad not all games are this hard. A big reason they used to make all games hard was to make the game last longer. Nowadays they make games last longer with massive game environments, massive dialogue options and 10 times as many quests. I like...

Neither do I, and neither will anyone else who doesn't consider counting grains of rice exiting. But apparently some people like Rice-counting because they feel the need to bitch about the XP system.Jack Dandy wrote:I didn't notice anything wrong with the XP system.

Re: Please FIX the XP system!
I agree the lack of an XP split is bizarre. While I understand the game is attempting to recreate an old school system of roleplay, there is a reason more modern RPG's have evolved the way they have. Forcing your rear party to take part in actions that may be detrimental, simply because it's the on...

Re: Game designers being plain unfair
Ah well, quick time events are a completely different topic altogether. I would straight up murder who ever thought QTEs were a fun idea. I can not think of one game where a QTE popped up and I was all. OH this is fun rock on! Prince of Persia: Two Thrones comes to mind as the closest thing. Anyway...

Re: Please FIX the XP system!
If the XP-per-mob were fixed, and the allocation of that XP changed, that would be a sort of annoying thing. And no matter how much he tries to be an internet tough guy and show off how manly he is, Mr. K. has not actually presented any actual argument as to why the person who's providing the heali...

Re: Game designers being plain unfair
Good question, and examples. *Thinks*
Hmm, this is going WAAAY back.
Wizardry VI Bane of the Cosmic Forge.
IF you screwed up picking a lock at certain points that door was jammed forever more, even if you found the key, even when it was a door critical to finishing the game.

Re: Please FIX the XP system!
I haven't read every post on this thread, but am I right in understanding that the thing you want "fixed" is that you want all characters to hit some kind of experience roof before the game is over? I'd rather have plenty of headroom and let different characters grow in different directio...
