Stuck on Level 1

Ok, I must be missing something obvious because I seem to have wandered into an inescapable room on the very first level. The room consists of three tiles in an L shape. The tile by the exit is a pressure plate that closes a gate locking you in. There is a hidden button in the room which reopens the gate, but the gate will still close if you try to leave. What am I missing?!?

Did you try putting something on the pressure plate to keep it down?

I had thought to try that, but didn't have anything. Finally my torch blew out so I tried that and it worked, thanks.

No problem...just understand the puzzles do get harder!
