Sadly these are things that the Grimrock modding community can't influence. So the things we *can* influence (helping newbies, documenting solutions, etc) are where we can make a positive contribution. It's great to see that so many of you have been doing this already, sharing knowledge and posting solutions to modder's requests.

Yeah, this is kinda disappointing, but is obviously a direct result of the niche nature of Grimrock and the complexity of requirements to build anything beyond a 'simple' dungeon. I think if a modder is looking for a platform to show off their skills to a wide audience, Grimrock definitely isn't it. But that does mean the remaining Grimrock modders are likely to be highly dedicated, given the choice they've made.

I should clarify what I said in that other thread. I play around with modding things, because I enjoy it as a creative outlet. The process of learning a new engine and building something on it is fun, and that's normally enough for me.

Most of the time however, I don't finish a complete dungeon/level/whatever because it's not my primary motivator. The learning and creating is the fun part, and once I'm sufficiently happy that I understand how to do what I want, I've usually reached a point of contentment that ironically means I generally stop and move on to something else... Perhaps I just get bored easily, but I've learned to accept that's part of my character and creative happiness.

If I do finish a complete playable mod, I would absolutely release it to the community. However, I suspect most people would find it boring as I'm not remotely interested in modding the things that the rest of you seem to enjoy (internal systems, traits, classes, etc). Those sorts of mechanics don't interest me; I'm more more concerned with story, mood and atmosphere, and I take zero enjoyment from the sorts of hard-core mechnics modding that, for example, cromcrom enjoys. So yeah, I would release a mod and it would be great if people enjoyed it, but it's not the main motivator for me.

lol I couldn't help noticing a couple of the "grimrock" modders are playing Fallout 4 now. Perhaps they may someday start modding that game as well?
I'm gonna admit, i might have been playing Fallout 4 myself right now, but my laptop can't handle it.

I think I like what you like (story, mood and atmosphere), plus exploration and some clever puzzles.

well, i have story, mood and atmosphere. I don't know how "clever" my puzzles are. I know the solutions to them,i have no idea how hard they will be for other people.

Completely agree. Positive contributions is far more attractive than "elitism" and the like; especially when dealing with a niche player base.

True; although I think that as soon as LoG has some real NPC's... the skies the limit! If I can escort a lost Princess through a pack of Cannon Wielding Rat bosses for a 1,000 gold reward from a King who is secretly under the control of the Trickster; well now we got ourselves some wide audience potential :ugeek:

that sound really cool...
as long as you don't give the princess retarded AI where she just walks in circles or into the enemies unless you literally pull her with you from 2 inches away...and as long as you don't have the enemies target her exclusively totally ignoring the player pulling out all stops, literally throwing themselves on your blades just to get at her, forcing the player to shield her with their own bodies, taking all the damage...
like 99% of all escort missions in 99% of games that have them.
