Utility Set1 & Bonus Redwood Forest - is up

Post by vanblam »

Hello all, I know I've been teasing you with all the content images from my project. I decided to stop the project and just create resource packs, been MIA cause I got a new job so I took a long break from the PC,
but now I'm all settled in and ready to pop out resource packs :) Starting with my Utility Set 1 with Bonus Redwood Forest. There will be many more packs to follow. Here's the link.

Neat! I do have a complaint about the redwood forest conversion: all the models have 100% flat shading. Smooth shading would look much better on most of the edges and the flat shading hurts the filesize and performance too.

That bridge
re-creating it and adding it for people to use go me to releasing my asset pack, and it even looks pretty much the same
I love you

Enjoy :D!
Thanks for this pack!
The Redwood forest is amazing!

I wonder if you have made a cloister arch which can be used to make a cloister without the superposition glitch? I know it's easy to do with Blender, but...

hmmm did they come out that way for ya?
I have all of the models smooth shaded. I did separate some objects to create a hard line in some places but I guarantee there all smooth shaded.
I brought each tree down to 3k triangles per section ( that's including all the foliage around the tree). maybe your seeing some of the low poly
edges?

Can confirm the models are using flat shading. Caused by this:

Are you using the Grimrock Model Toolkit for this? Because it tends to do that

I'm using the Grimrock Model Toolkit. But I'm not using is to calculate the normals, I do that in blender. This is what I see in the took kit .. strange that it comes out flat for you guys.

I just exported that from the toolkit and loaded it into blender and it was still smooth shaded for me.. So I'm confused on how to fix this :P

Oh I just saw what you were looking at O.o (blender was still shading the seperated parts) ... Is there a program to use besides the Model Toolkit .. I want to fix that problem now.
Does it look all flat shaded in game for you too? Post a screenshot if it does .. I'm curious.

It looks flat in the toolkit for me as well, but in reality, most of the polygons aren't connected to each other. (That also explains the size being 1.7mb)
Selecting all and removing doubles fixes that mostly, but if two polygons are not connected in the UV layout, they will be separated and flat shading will be applied when exported.

EDIT: Will check. But the size being 1.7mb is still kind of a big deal

EDIT2:
Looks fine, but oh god my poor computer did not like that at all.
