[SPOILERS] performance issue?? (iron door problem)

Post by M.M »

I am facing a weird fenomenon.

I am trying to open iron door at lv 7. The one that requires you to intercept white fireballs.

Difficult task, and i am stuck at it for several days now. What i have noticed however, is that LoG has became unresponsieve to commands. When i had no problem with reaching to about half of the puzzle, and at my best to almost end, i have now a big difficulty eflecting 3rd head now.

I thought I was just tired, but no. I even changed to mouse controls ( the arrows, from options) and i am pretty much sure, thatt the party response to command much slower. It's not me pressing the key, for too long or too short. And its not my first attemt on the door.

Anyone have noticed something similar, or it just my illusion?

BTW. Has anyone opened the door? Is it worth to waste so many days on them?
One more thing, is this ONLY about reflex, or should i look around more carefuly or use my brain more?l

Nope my rig runs it fine but there are sections of this game were if theres alot of effects/portals my framerate dips and I'm running a GTX 570 with a I5 2500K. Did you try turning down all the settings for just this part?

I suggest just tapping the direction keys shortly, because holding down a direction makes you overshoot your mark or run into the walls a lot. It's fairly easy to open that door, just think of it as a Dance Dance Revolution -ish puzzle.

PS: Although my PC is a heap of junk and has low FPS on pretty much any game I play (10 FPS on TF2, 5 FPS on Gotham City Impostors), this game runs very very smoothly. No FPS drops anywhere. My fans go a little crazy though.

Oh yeah and always return to the middle after you blocked one or two on the side, even if the next one hasn't fired yet. After a few tries you should have the pattern down.

Hmm I literally did this on first try (I did read in a walkthrough what was going to happen first)

Yep a perfomance issue.
I have just retried it, an a problem have dissapeared. The part moves fast again, and i am making again to about half of the task. My comp must have been doing something stupid like downloading updates.

Nwo back to the labour of opening that door (it better be worth the effort  ).

i was having problems with this as well,
SpoilerShow
after the part where it goes left, right, left, right, left, middle, middle i was failing every single time because i couldnt get left to right fast enough
i put resolution at 720p, and turned all graphical settings to the lowest possible and i did it first try. there is definitely some prohibitive graphical lag in this game, and this is a prime example.

I tried graphics all the way down - no dice...in fact, the issue doesn't seem to be that the game is lagging. I was able to beat most other puzzles on the almost-but-not-quite-top graphical setting I've been using since the teleporter puzzle on level 2. At this door, I always, always fail on the last "double move" from wall to wall, ie: I can catch the third-to-last bolt, but miss the 2nd-to-last....every time.

I am now convinced it's a hardware issue with my keyboard itself. I have the relatively crappy keyboard what came with my desktop, and in playing with it in the control panel, there is a noticeable lag even when testing the keypress speed. I am thinking with Grimrock apparently only buffering two commands at a time, it will be impossible for me to finish this puzzle. The time it takes to get from
SpoilerShow
right to left to right to middle
requires pressing keys faster than my keyboard can register them... I wonder if some others who get frustrated have similar undiagnosed keyboard issues?
