A few suggestions for small, easy to implement improvements

Post by Ekar »

Here are a couple of things which I feel may be good additions and which I assume (or hope) wouldn't be too hard to implement for a future patch sometime.

1- Ability to swap right/left mouse buttons so that left button is attack. Left button attack is conventional for mouse clicking- may help some players feel less muddled (including me!) with their mouse clicks.

2- A small sound plays when a player aquires a new skill when leveling up. I really love the current level up sound (very EOTB) but am always slightly disappointed when a character aquires a new skill and there's no aural recognition. A very small thing but I think it would improve the game experience.

3- Currently, mouse look is restricted to 180 degrees or so. Is there a gameplay reason why you can't turn all the way around (ie, 360 degree rotation?) It would be nice to rotate to your opposite direction with mouselook. As I say, perhaps there is a reason for this limitation, but I can't see what it would be.

4- The intro sequence has beautiful illustrations, but they are completely static. This lets down the presentation slightly (it's unusual for a modern game to have static intros). In the trailer the illustrations are shown with a bit of movement (the airship), slight parallax of foreground and background elements, etc. It looks really nice and I wondered why it wasn't that way ingame. Suggestion: do likewise for the ingame intro sequence.

Thanks for listening :) I am absolutely loving Grimrock btw.

Cheers,

Some nice ideas, I especially agree with the sound when gaining a new skill ability. I absolutely LOVE the sound you get whe you find a secret area, sheer genius! :D

The sound of a secret door opening is pure awesome. Also the sound of a torch is very very authentic and atmospheric. Overall the sound work is of high quality and very pleasing to listen to.

But I wish there was more of it!

All items make the same sound when picked up, be it a sword or a loin cloth. Would be so nice to have different, appropriate sounds for different items. Especially when you equip something like armor and weapons.

Other stuff that is missing is some spellcasting sounds and vfx. Elemental protections, enchantments and Invisibility. They just kind of.. happen. Silently and unceremoniously.

But I'm guessing good stuff like this is going to happen now that Grimrock had a successful launch. :D
