I think it is about time the devs allow us the ability to set the speed of the puzzles so that all of us can achieve the speed of movement required to solve the speed puzzles.
I have stripped my characters down to just their weapons and still they cannot go fast enough to reach the target door/button etc.
Some keyboards simply do not allow that speed of movement.
I have started this topic since the previous version seems to be locked although this is a very valid discussion point.

Re: Speed puzzles
It's not based on your keyboard, but several other factors can effect your success.
I have a thread here with everyone on the boards ideas and such,

A gently fried snail slice is absolutely delicious with a pat of butter...
Re: Speed puzzles
I can understand the frustration of speed puzzles, especially on lower machines. I was fortunate enough to have a fast (enough) rig to be able to manipulate the appropriate switches when it was called for. The first, and obvious thing to do, would be to of course lower the settings/resolutions/textures.
Keyboard delay (notably, wireless keyboard) have always seem to be an issue during the most hectic times. Especially when the batteries are running a little low. Can't really offer too much more advise than that, I'm sorry. You can try hooking up a wired keyboard and/or mouse to see if it helps. Combine that with lower resolutions. That might help until the editor comes out in which you could manually set the times for the current relays.
Hope that helps.

Re: Speed puzzles
any time you are doing a timed puzzle and you are having issues with it, go ahead and turn your graphical settings down. there were 2 parts where i flatout had to do this because with all the ambient effects that were being processed, it made the game appear to play at a normal speed, but i just couldnt get it to register key presses fast enough. there are multiple graphical filters that are always being processed in the game, so one of the most helpful things you can do is turn your resolution down. i play 1920x1080 with textures on high, other graphical options set to low or off, and the game still looks great and runs pretty smooth, but i had action delay that i couldnt account for at first. after many insanely frustrating attempts at some puzzles, i said screw it, and tried lowering my graphical settings to 720p (i can never remember the first number. i want to say 1280? whatever) and set everything to low/off, and without fail, first try i was able to beat any puzzle i was having problems with.
