...you're not required to rest at that location. It's enought to stand on the spot for about 1 minute. However, resting is probably faster.
Ahh! That explains while I sometimes had to rest multiple times. I guess resting is not the trigger then. If only I knew back then, I could've done without resting.

I also thought resting was a requirement, because of the wording in the hint. However, on second run I thought I should try to just stand in place at the right location. And if you use your mouse to turn the view a little, while facing the right direction, you can see when the iron door opens.
You know you're screwed when the light at the end of the hallway is an onrushing ogre wielding a torch.
