Ah, now I remember! I've seen that and played it for a short while before before we found the AD&D 2nd Edition. When it was more roleplaying than rollplaying. At least from my experience. Now it seems many are obsessed with numbers and math and statistics, and roleplaying and the sense of adventure is (at best) second most important.

ha. funny you mention this. im a second edition lover myself, and i remember when 3rd edition came out and people quickly figured out how to make super characters (which is incidentally why i never liked 3rd+ edition), that was the exact arguement they used; "i like roleplaying, not rollplaying."

i used to laugh when people i knew who played 3rd edition decided to try some of my second edition games and they would get destroyed by ankhegs.

I started this campaing yesterday night, it was GREAT!
All players have not yet played LoG on PCs, and they will wait to buy it and play it untill the end of this campaing... we had a lot of fun and they made the first level of the dungeon and a good portion of the second.
2 fighters (human), a rogue (human) and a mage (human too).

The 2 fighters were innocent brothers caught up with the mage who was cast out after trying to ressurect Valor, the Emperor, to gain some powerfull knowledge. The rogue was a appointed with minor theft and saved by some guards from a village-outrage-and-selfjustice. All 4 were cast down Into The Darkness in order to unfold the secrets of Grimrock or perish while trying.
If we do not end the war, the war will end us.

I have been thinking of a similar game but in the burning wheel system. its pretty fun and has a really intense combat system and simulates medieval fantasy better then any other system I have seen. but it can be pretty deadly and needs a good party not to die all the time.

We got the second run in the LoG, they completed the second level in about 2hrs of play. Now they have reached the 3rd level and they are more excited by uncovering the "mysteriuos voice that speak in dreams" and on the strange function of the dungeons architecture itself. This is to be a really nice campaign i think.

Friday night we got the third run, twice in a week seem a good omen (we have played on demand of the players).
They just got completly sucked-in by the "voice who whispers in the dreams". They ended the 3rd level of the dungeon uncovering much secrets and battling only if they were cornered. The rogue had to be resurrected with the Crystal on level 2, they got tons of fun while enacting their own personalities while they are chained one with other (they can't go single or divide, they still chained togheter). They found the first Toorum's note and they wonder who this Toorum is and if he's alive... and then the very first encounter with the "green-and-black-stripes slimish coocons" and a fierce'n'hungry venomous spider, they had to fight such predator who caught'em'all with unbelivable surprise.
Now they understand the power of the potion and how they exactly can work and be brewed.

Here's the first spider, i'm using images from all acroos the web to adapt in D&D-LoG.

Also i'm taking some rights to make the same moster in more version, to suite for higher level parties and lower level dungeons. Such has the Spider Queen, the Jumping Spider and the Trap Door Spider (it's used to place traps and ambushes in trapdoors, a truly nasty surprise if you try to take a look inside) and the Swarm of Slings. So the players never have the feleling to encounter always the same type enemy.

PS: a sneak peak of the Spider Queen, almost the size of a water-tank (about 3 to 4 meter tall and much more large with the legspan).

Hah looks like fun! Do they end up running to the crystals a lot, or do you make them one use only?

Only once, they tend to avoid the fight and think about the best strategy to take-out their enemies.
