I'm now at start of level 5 and looking back I noticed I never opened that door in level 3 close to the stairs to level 4.
Since I had no clue about it I checked on this forum.
According to this walkthrough

the gold key should be dropped by a spider near the hidden stairs to level 4 (north of map, number 79 in the guide)... but there was none. Usually I ALWAYS pick up every drop and I found no such key anywhere. I checked the place again to see if I missed it, but all around the level (in case I killed that particular spider somewhere else) there are no left drops.
Is that 100% sure? Could I maybe have used that key in some other way? I really don't remember but since the "gear key" (or similar) was clear that was no ordinary key, I suppose I would also noticed this other key as a non-conventional key...
I don't know. Any help?
In case I'm screwed (I don't know if drops de-spawn after some time) is there a way to "illegally" obtain a specific item so to get it by other means?

Ok, solved. Roaming randomly in the level 3 I found the spider in a place EXTREMELY FAR from where it should have been and it dropped the key.
