Hey guys, I'm dying to get Grimrock going in 3D - even bought a 3600 dollar laptop to kick it off, but the 3D settings don't seem to be right. I am not really getting any 3D at all. I get a bit of a double image unless I play on a borderless setting, but the images dont go #D with glasses, they are just double images. I got 3D working for other games but I cant seem to figure it out.
I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with the polarized swanky glasses.
Can anyone walk me though this like a 5 year old? I've been looking at a lot of the shadow fixes and stuff and can follow those instructions fine, but my issue is the fixes are irrelevant until I can atually see it in 3D. Are my NVIDIA settings wrong? Any help much much appreciated. I cant wait to play this game!
It's an easy mistake to make but what you're looking at there are the 3D options in terms merely of the 3D graphics engine, not the 3D output technology (in your case, NVidia 3D Vision). What you need to do is go down to the Stereoscopic 3D section of the NVidia Control Panel and click "Enable Stereoscopic 3D". That should launch the 3D Vision setup wizard which should guide you through the rest of the process.
Just updated my graphics drivers while I was checking for you. Thought this was pretty funny...
Latest NVidia drivers were advertising Max Payne 3 as the next big thing, even has a button to check if your computer is up to spec. So I checked out of curiosity...
Yeah, fork out £324 for a GTX670 to play Max Payne 3 with "3D Surround gaming on three HD displays"...brilliant.
I had to manually adjust the convergence (an advanced setting) to get the 3D to look right, but there is another problem discussed in other threads. The lighting is offset incorrectly for each eye, creating doubled light sources and shadows. I am hoping that this will be fixed in an update, but at present Grimrock is challenging to play in Nvidia 3D Vision. I can tell you that will the torches off of the walls, the 3D looks amazing. I believe there is a patch to remove light sources and shadows, but that also takes away a lot of the atmosphere in this game.
I'd really like to thank you guys for your help. In the end this was a hilarious newbie mistake but I wouldnt have started questioning myself more seriously without your comments to get me thinking. So... in the end.... I didn't have the 3D glasses turned on:) lolol. Sorry!
After seeing it with and without the shadow textures i cant decide what to do. It looks so incredible in 3D, but yes some of the atmosphere is gone. I thought I might play once in normal light to feel the mood and the second time though in 3D.
Anyway thank you guys very much for prodding a noob!
