Returning to level 9 from level 10

I'm ready to enter the end game, so I want to tidy up loose ends; I played without the walkthrough as far as possible, and naturally missed a few things. I need to get all the way back to level 3 for one of the treasures. Problem is, the stairs up from level 10 are in the opening part of level 10, but that is cut off from the rest of level 10 by a one way portal. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious as I can't find anyone else asking this question, but how to I get back to the stairs up to level 9 from the main part of level 10?

Are you sure it's a one way portal? I'm sure there is a portal taking you back to the first part of level 10. I just can't recall right now where that portal is to be found.

Until you've started the endgame fight, you should always be able to track all the way back to level 1.

Pretty sure. I presume there must be one somewhere going the other way, if not then there is no way back, which I'm certain isn't the case. But I haven't found it mentioned in a walkthrough, and so far, no one on this forum has come up with an answer. In fact I've got around around it by installing the console mod and activating the map editor, so I can now walk through from one section to another; but I prefer to play within the game's rules where possible.
