You you place the monster, tentacles outside a wall, it will look like tentacles are coming out of the walls to attack the party. This could make for some interesting corridors, as you cannot damage the tentacles.
The console displays an error, which makes me think that maybe it won't allow the game to be played out of the editor?
I don't know. I think it's a cool idea, what does everyone else think on it?
Don't be intimidated by the dead characters in the screenshot.
They're not wearing anything and I had to stand still for a while to get the right shot.
Would it be possible to place a secret wall down, then script the tentacles to attack through it or something similar? I find this idea brilliant, and it could make for a good dungeon if used correctly.
I doubt you could have it attack through a secret door as,
1. Monsters don't attack through doors
2. You can't place a door in front of empty space. -the monster has to be in empty space to attack you through walls.
I tried placing glass wall props in the editor, then removing the space behind one every so often allowing for an illusory wall. Then I tried your tentacle idea and it worked perfectly - they pop out of the walls, do damage, and can be attacked in return.
Put the creature on a real tile with a grate as needed.
Then where the wall in your screenshot would be, place a x_wall_text plate. The creature should attack through it.
Theres also somewhere on the forums that if you go into Dev mode and F11 you can LMB to make walls fake and RMB to make them real again.

When you have to rush, you're likely to miss something bonus.
You could clone the tentacles and set the onDamage hook to hudPrint that the tentacles seem to be immune / or regen damage and either set HP really high, or heal them (although i couldnt see how to find the current HP of the monster).
If you just wanted it to be totally un-hittable, you could set its evasion/protection really high too

"You strike at the tentacle, but as soon as you swing, it retreats back into the hole in the wall."

When I made the hallway of these to test their interaction with prop wall, I put them down both sides and regardless of my ability to hit them back, standing around was certainly not an option. Facing one wall to see if I could engage them allowed the wall behind me completely destroy both of my rear characters.Personally, if someone has the tenacity to stand toe to toe with that and win in my dungeon, they've well earned whatever might be inside that wall niche.Unless you could survive doing this again and again, it's still run or die.
