Fighter's challenge.. 4 mages..

Post by Omenpapa »

So i have a lvl 13 party, with 4 mages, 2 frost, 1 fire, 1 air. I'm playing on hard, and im clueless wtf should i do there...Rarely i can get to a corner, but even then i die soo fast. I do use speedpotions, also trying to use some hp pots but using those is kinda hard while u r clicking runes...Tried invisiblity, cuz some1 said its good.. well it doesnt realyl makes any difference for me. I even tried to put a torch down to the tleport, so it appears, then throwing in some bombs. Actually this is working for my suprise but they r waay too many still after my "bombardment". Got 71/71 secrets... and i realyl dont wanna start over for only this with a casual aprty. :) Any suggestion/help would be appreciated.

how my 4 lvl 15 mages made it after about half a dozen attempts

Ice + Poison mage are in front and hold all the frost and lightning bombs i could collect.
Ice had 3 healing potions because i could not afford to loose him as a walking freezer.
Poison i could afford to loose; when he died i picked his remaining lightning bombs and tosses them myself.

Lightning + Fire mage are in back wield their regular weapons ready to cast Lightning Bolt and Fire Ball.
Both have at least 1 healing and 2 energy potions so i can fuel their energy pool.

Strategy:

0 (before entering the teleporter): feed the front row 2 speed potions to up toss-speed

It's also good to prepare the mortar (keep it open!) and have that used speed pot produce a healing or energy potion on need.
You can also use any poison and fire bombs you got to soften things by tossing them into the teleporter BEFORE drinking the speed potions.

1: enter and make it into a corner

This is absolutely essential!
Use whatever needs be to blow the critters appart and step forward; just make it!

Invisibility is a nice thought but as soon as your characters cast their first attack spell or throw anything Insivibility is broken so ditch that though; it's no help in a room filled with hungry critters.

2: freeze critters to the side and kill critters in front

When healing/energy potions run out - and they will run out! - you need to be prepared to brew more while you keep on fighting!
If you don't want to brew healing and energy potions you can also switch on Lightning Rod's and Fire Blades and use their charges.

Good luck!

" i picked his remaining lightning bombs and tosses them myself."

That information omg, Thanks m8!

I just manually dropped ice bombs at the corner, no1 died.. i didnt even use a single pot(mana or hp)...ofc i used the 4 speed pot before entering the portal. Thanks again m8.. still this kinda feels like exploiting :p

Bombs are really powerful, I used them to beat the end boss easily. Of course there's only a limited amount to be found.

Yea, what i ment under OP is that u can actually use em w/o a character action. So it's isnt tied to cooldown, it isnt tied to anything but some clicks from the player. I didnt test it, but prolly all the throwable items work like this. On the other hand if we give the bombs to a char, then it has a cooldown, he/she cant spamm it like the player can manually. I would say this isnt intended.

Since these items r limited tho, i dont think they r gamebreaking, they just feels like cheating :D I didnt use a single bomb till that fighter's challenge, cuz i had the feeling that i will encounter some big bullshit sooner or later with my pure mage squad...where i have to rely on some cheap thing :P Seems i was right :P

Instead going to the corner...
SpoilerShow
...you may turn left after teleporting, move forward to the wall (two squares) push the button that opens secret room to the right, strife right (or turn right if there's monster already on that tile), move forward into that secret room, turn around and fight from that secret room. That way all your back row mages are safe.
I played on normal with 4 mages and this encounter was pretty easy (second or third try actually, without casualties). I know it is probably much more challenging on hard mode though. Also my Earth Mage has had pretty high Staff Defence skill by the time I got there.

I did try that merethif. The problem is till the wall goes up so u can go in, is pretty much enough time to kill the whole party 3-4 times. I went with glass cannon style, with all 4 mages. Everything else in the game besides that FC is more or less easily doable(with a littlebit kiting) with this setup.

Sorry for late reply, but I believe it's not necromancy yet ;-)
I guess Invisibility could give you several seconds of immunity and increase your chances of success in that case.

I haven't played with 4 mages, but the life saving trick (literally, noone died in my party) is to do fighter's challenge with a golden key. The key used for the treasure on couple levels will work.

Once you teleport, you just work your way forward at the direction of the locked portcullis is, then to the right one or two grids. Once the gate is open, you need to walk your way in there. If you manage to survive, you are all set. You are covered from 3 sides and those poor barstards will form a line for you to slaughter them one by one.

The strategy to walk into any specific direction with so many creatures is simple. You use mouse to hack, slash and cast spells and spam W at the same time (hitting it many times per second).

At the end you'll get your golden key back.
