Sword Fighter: When to get 2ndary?

Post by trentjaspar »

Hi, all. I have a Fighter who so far (char lvl6) has put all of his points into swords. He's a fairly agile fighter (high dex and some evasion gear), though I already have an evasion unarmed rogue next to him in the front ranks. He's Skilled, so as a human projects to have 55 skill points at Level 13 plus I will probably give him a skill book when I find one.

Right now having just gotten to char level 6, but not having spent his points, he has 23 in Swords and has unlocked Thrust. My question is whether and when to put points into a secondary skill-- I'm thinking Armors-- to get him Light Armor Proficiency. I'd like to give him the best light armor I find without impacting his evasiveness. If I up Armor now, then at next level he'll have Light Armor Proficiency. However, that's obviously slowing down his Swords progression delaying Flurry of Slashes by 2 levels and meaning he'll only get Sword Master at Level 13. He could get it at 11 if he ignores a secondary until he's maxed in Sword, if I've done my math right.

Any thoughts? Any more info needed to answer?

Thanks.

I recommend getting the full 50 in swords asap, because it's SOOOO fun to swing that sword twice as fast, and if you wait till your 13 then there won't be much game left to enjoy it!

Since you only need 8 in Armors to get light armor proficiency, you could offset most of that cost by giving him one the skill books you'll find in the dungeon.

Yes my plan was to give him a skill book-- and maybe that answers my question-- keep upping Sword until I find my first skill book, then at next level put three points into Armor to give him the proficiency.

Or, put three points in Armor now and the rest in Sword, then when I find the first book, he gets his proficiency. At least he gets +1 Prot to use in the meantime.

Sounds good to me. :)

All in swords and try not to get hit, maybe two skill books if you don't need them elsewhere (which you probably don't if you're not going for another 50 skill point skill).

Machette. Early in the game look for a longsword. There are a couple of them available in the game. Then Cutlass Then later there is the Sword Of Nex and then the Dismantler. There is some discussion about which of those last two is actually better as they have different attributes.
