Model Retexturing Tutorial

Post by JohnWordsworth »

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I have posted a first draft of a model Retexturing tutorial at the GrimWiki. Info coming very soon about how to join the Wiki, we're just sorting one or two last bits of admin!

Hope this is useful to someone!

Very nice!

Couple of suggestions:
- Use DXT1 for diffuse maps. DXT5 contains an alpha channel (not needed normally) and is twice as big as DXT1.
- Specular and normal maps don't need to be duplicated if you don't change their contents. This saves a lot of memory. Especially uncompressed normal maps are huge in memory.

Thanks for the feedback @Petri, I have incorporated your suggestions into the article. I just need to update one of the screenshots when I'm on my computer back at home!

This is great!

Changing skins was one of the first things I tried to do, and proably the one I sweared the most doing (pretty much blind until I dared to ask around here). So this should get many a new modder on their tracks right away!
