Question to the Devs. (About Alcoves and Altars)

Post by Neikun »

Why is it that you can pick up an item from an altar (presumably center square, right?) from any side,
but you cannot do the same with an alcove that has it's anchorPos set to be in the center of the square.

While we're on the topic, would you consider making it possible to alter anchorPos and anchorRotation of an altar?
Modding idea to help sway you: Sword in the Stone.

Can't you put an alcove on an altar model then you'll have access to anchorPos & rotate?

Yes, but I doubt I would be able to grab the item in the center of the square.
EDIT: inb4 "obv not the new king then."

There can be only one.

Without looking at the code, I would guess this is a hardcoded feature. Altars have floor placement (facing doesn't matter) and alcoves wall placement (facing matters).

That said, could code be added/implemented for Neikun's "Waltar" type, which functions as either depending on placement? (on floor vs. on wall) :)

On floor, can be accessed from any side, but in a wall you have to choose facing?

More feedback would be appreciated.
I suppose I didn't think about facing as my example involves center square.
But I don't think that would make much difference.
I understand that for alcoves, it *anchorPos) counts off the wall. 0,0,3 being far off the wall and 0,0,-3 being deep inside the wall.
I wonder if it would be possible to have altars that when at 0,0,0 are essentially the same thing (visually) as 0,0,1.5
