I downloaded all the things I need on the grim wiki for the model retexturing tutorial last night.
Gave it a go, and tried to do a retexture with a rock, using the same logic as the fire_lizard example, but ran into some trouble with the materials.lua definitions and what not.
So this morning I tried again, deciding to follow the exact steps for the fire_lizard and it all seemed to work fine, until the very end when I have to add the code in the dungeons monsters.lua file. I copy pasted it and when I try to load my dungeon I get this error,
[string "Monster.lua"]:0: File not found: mod_assets/models/monsters/fire_lizard.model
Which confuses me because when I look in my
C:\Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock\Dungeons\Lost ruins of Xaae\mod_assets\models
I see, the file fire_lizard.model.
Maybe it was a different step I messed up on, I'm not to sure. Anyone think they know where I went wrong?

Maybe a silly question, but in the error the folder is
mod_assets/models/monsters/
while you are talking about
mod_assets/models/
Probably only a typo, but sometimes you miss the obvious.

Yeah, it was exactly that. Hehe thanks.Phitt wrote:Maybe a silly question, but in the error the folder is

They should fix that in the tutorial, because when they tell you to copy / rename the files and put them in your mod_assets directory of your new dungeon. They tell you to path it to, <Dungeon Folder>\mod_assets\models\fire_lizard.model.
But when you define a new monster in the monster.lua script in the directory of your dungeon, the path is mod_assets/models/monsters/fire_lizard.fbx".
So I guess either adding a monsters folder in the models folder and moving the file there works. Or removing the monsters folder from the path in the script. A pretty easy mistake to spot, but when you're new and 100 things can go wrong, it can be hard to miss.

So easy to miss these things when writing a tutorial! I've updated the tutorial on the Wiki, many thanks for letting us know about the error - will help others in the future.
