yeah. we need animations to stop taking place until such a time as i no longer want them taking place, like when it's time to smash some puny adventurers.

What about creating a Blockage object using the ogre model, and then on the fly removing the object and spawning the monster when the animation time kicks in (maybe with a big particle effect to try to cover eventual discontinuities in the animation) ?

That's the route I'm going to take. However I was kind of looking to just have a stone monster come to life without all the smoke and mirrors.

I just had the thought of a monster that only moves when you are t looking at it until it gets within 3! Spaces. Then it drops the statue charade and attacks in a frenzy. Naturally said monster should only be knee high.

Hello HaunterV
Before sorry for my poor english language (Google translation)
If I understood you ask for a statue that turns into a monster when you get to three spaces, looking into her eyes
Try this :
First : create stone_ogre from Ciccipicci (Thanks I love this monster)
Two : create this object

defineObject{
name = "stone_ogre_statue",
class = "Blockage",
model = "mod_assets/models/monsters/stone_ogre.fbx",
placement = "floor",
repelProjectiles = true,
hitSound = "impact_blade",
editorIcon = 56,
}
watch out for the model location put it in your mod_assets

Three : place a stone_ogre_statue in your dungeon and a hidden pressure plate (click activate once and change ID for function killOgre() ) facing your statue (3 spaces)
Four : create a floor outside of your dungeon
in this floor put a stone_ogre (change facing in the same way of your statue) and a teleporter (Deactivated) and select your teleporter target on your stone_ogre_statue

Five : create a lua script and put this script

function killOgre()
for i in entitiesAt(6, 22, 5) do
if i.name == "stone_ogre_statue" then
i:destroy()
end
end
end

(change the entitiesAt for your location of stone_ogre_statue )

Now connect your pressure plate to lua script and and teleporter

Remember before try this take a copy of your dungeon

Now you can try, he work very well for me

I have not tried this at all, so i may be way off base (Ive learned that all of my assumptions NEVER work, gotta try, fail, and adjust with this engine).But I really think a freeze effect with a drab gray, that can be activated and deactivated on that ogre at will, can make a stark,still ,gray statue that turns into a normal Ogre any time you want.
Currently conspiring with many modders on the "Legends of the Northern Realms"project.

That does sound simpler. I'm going to do the statue thing mentioned in the above with the puff of dust n what not. Though shouldn't a script with the gist that says "spawn stone ogre" be a tad simpler than creating a monster closet with a teleporter?
