Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
Will my work notebook with Intel i7 CPU Q720 @ 1.6 GHz, 3GB RAM, and an NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M video card be able to run this game in a satisfactory way? I'm thinking not...but if so, I'd like to know!
Re: Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
I have played Grimrock on three different PCs, the weakest of which is my work laptop:
Intel i3 CPU M350 2.27GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics on-board crap
I have all the game settings at low except textures are at medium, and while it looks not as good as higher settings it still looks good to me and is fun to play. There was one timing puzzle I couldn't do on that laptop that I could to on the other computers due to not being able to move quickly enough due to the framerate, but it was an optional puzzle anyway so no big loss. Plus I think your graphics card will be better than mine, but I'm not sure about that, it's hard to sometimes compare mobile graphic cards

Re: Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
Thanks, Komag. Actually, I saw another of your replies on this general issue (can my CPU, graphics card, etc run Grimrock) that gave me hope. And this reply gives me a little more so that, when my work day is over today, I'll buy it and give it a try.
I guess all I needed was a mere hint of the possibility that this would work.
Many Thanks!

seems the quatro 880 ist based on the Geforce GT 330M, whcih seems a pretty powerful mobil card design from 2009 (GT216), 800MHz Chipclock, 2 shader units, 16 texturunits, 48 stream processing units. 182,2 GFlops, 25,6 GB/s mem-bandwidth.Gewesen wrote:Will my work notebook with Intel i7 CPU Q720 @ 1.6 GHz, 3GB RAM, and an NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M video card be able to run this game in a satisfactory way? Should be run better than this comparable card GT210 (40nm)
graphic clock 589 MHz which has an positive report.
Please report back your FPS when you test it

If you find that the video lags the game, as evidenced by trying to move into an empty square, and not being able to, because a monster is 'going' to move there, then consider using the Cheat Engine (speed hack). I've had to resort to that for my laptop. But I have an embedded Radeon video chip thats much slower.

Re: Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
I've had lots of maddening distractions, so I have yet to download Grimrock. I plan to do so over the upcoming US holiday and I'll report back after I've had a chance to play a bit and check the frame rate. Thank you all for your replies!
Re: Are these old laptop specs good enough to run Grimrock?
Downloaded and played for a little bit. I like, so far.
I used the grimrock.cfg option to debug, which turns on FPS counter. I just walked a little bit and the FPS ranged from 19 to 33, but response seemed slower than when I had debug turned off. Earlier I fought a couple of snails and the response and visuals were fine. I left visuals on default, which I think was at max resolution for my laptop and effects were all on.
Thanks again for helping me make the decision to buy Grimrock. First non-casual game I've played in probably 2 years.

Hey guys! Sneak peek: The next version of Grimrock will have a new graphics option which affects the overall rendering quality. Turning it down improves the frame rate a lot especially on computers with slower graphics cards. For example on Nvidia 320M the frame rate improved from ~15 fps to 45-60 fps.

WOW! That's a very nice option to have, will help me in certain sections when playing on my laptop!

I'll try it on my laptop when the update is available. Thanks.
