Level 8 can't open Iron door

I can't open the iron gate at D6/D7 to get into the room with many crabs and numerous fire bolts.
I've finished the whole corridor thing.

I don't get which door you are refering to. Once you completed the lightning conduit and entered the southern section with all those spiders, uggardians and ogres running around the level is pretty much straight forward.

If you refer to the iron door between the crystal and stairs down: it requires a key hidden on this level.

I found that key.
It's the room that has 2 entrances with an iron gate on each. There are crabs and many things shooting firebolts.
It's about 2 spaces south of the stairs from level 7

Am i right in assuming that you have not found the Dismantler yet?

I think maybe you are actually talking about the room with a spider, not a crab, and there is only one of them, and they are not firebolts but rather lightning bolts, is THAT the room you mean? You come into it from the south side. After doing the south tunnels, you have to fight the big herder battle and get the keys (one to get out, one for the locked door in the south tunnels), then put items on the plates to open walls for a big fight, then throw lever to open door and fight lots of uggardians, then proceed north to that room

So I really have to fight the herders to continue. Every time I go down there, I get killed in a few seconds

You need a key located in the herder room to continue, so: yes, you have to go down there.

Any help on getting past the herders?
I don't have poison shield available

- move quick
- kill the small herders first if you have to
- grab the key from the room and RUUUUN
