Game difficulty setting: what is the difference?

I played the game in both normal and hard mode. Now I always play hard when playing custom dungeons. But what is the difference? The only thing I noticed is that the spiders seem faster? I could not notice more monsters or different ones, but perhaps my memory is not that good. Or is it maybe that the monsters have more hit points? Faster attack?
