[MOD] The Lost Continent Looking for dungeon designers

Post by cromcrom »

Hi all,

I would like to expand TLC for book 2. I am not in a hurry, but I am not good at designing dungeons, I am more a coding type of person.

So I am looking for dungeon designers.

What I am looking for are about 1/4 th or 1/2 of a level THEMED dungeons, with a few traps/secrets/mind blasting riddles. No need for new custom stuff, vanilla codes/features are fine, although new stuff would be fine too^^

There would HAVE TO BE Lore/Theme with it, and possible quest ideas (a prison, on old war god temple, an Ice lizard Nursery, whatever...)
I will add the custom TLC systems to it if need be, link it to TLC quest system and areas.

This work will be source released at some time.

I will of course give credits, as I always do :-)

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

in place of actual designers for now.

Diminutive dungeon size is the one you want for grimrock dungeons

I dont think I have it in me to design more truly, thoughtful and considerate puzzles for you right now, (Exhausting my resources and learning new stuff to take the next step). But I would be all for (follow me here) allowing you to use an entire mod inside of TLC2. Like, make Hotel Hades an (optional) destination inside your mod. Or even part of it to suit your needs. Thinking along these lines, TLC2 could end up being 2 gigs with multiple destinations n such, but I'D play it!

This sounds really good. However, I am currently testing/debbuging TLC 2, I added many new skills and systems recently. Once done, I plan to add more levels. That's when you come in.Depending on the background, HH could suit anywhere in TLC, provided I adapt the specific stuff in it to TLC (monsters, maybe some special items that would be craftable, add a quest line, and mayber specific HH systems. TLC is indeed designed to be a bunch of themed open areas ("forest","hills", "mountains"...) linking more specific places like dungeons. Open areas mean the player can travel freely in these areas, that are wide open places, no keys needed, just the creatures and stuff make the areas more challenging than others.
So I am very interested :-)

You know, this thought process could lead to big things. Thinking about it more, HH is actually (Kinda) balanced as a 10 level dungeon, weak in the beginning, but by the end the party has grown quite a bit (The 28 randomizing tomes are used throughout, as well as exp awards) however, I don't think it would take alot to remove the tomes and exp (Dont know if it would even still be fun) But there is a new post in the useful scripts repository with a script to remove the parties inventory, and replace it later at will....Like the venture away never happened item wise. It would just be xp balance issues from there.(AND the compatibility problems we KNOW we will run into). This is likely more difficult to do right than I can foresee.
If anything, play through HH and I could recreate puzzles you enjoyed (I could use the same concept, not just cut/paste so it wouldnt be identical), and install them in wherever you like in TLC2. I am happy to help you any way I can, my only issue is that I put everything into those 10 levels, and am now working on a prequel and just have no creativity left until I develop some new skills, or have an idea just pop up.
