èàùòì and others

Post by Daght »

Can the game hold-on the letters like è-é-à-ò-ù-ì? Because while writting in hudPrint, scripts'n'scrolls'n'notes that letters can't be write and I need to use'em for the italian project - we use a lot of accents on the vocals for a different meaning of the same word.
Thanks.

Unfortunately the font system in the game uses only a limited set of characters since for technical reasons the fonts are rendered into textures instead of being used directly from the .ttf font itself. Here's all the characters supported by the game:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789()[],.=+-*'!"#$%&/{}?\;:_^~ÄÖäö

As far as I know, the answer is no.

For Italian, the classic workaround of using the ' in place of the accent should be enough, since commonly only words with an accent on the last syllable require them (realtà, libertà, perché, è, etc.) - by ortographic rules it's optional when the accent falls mid-word. The only ambiguity I can think of, is for the word "po" and other truncated words which are usually written with apostrophe which could be mistaken as an accent if the same symbol is used.. but a reality check shows that many get it wrong anyway :lol:

Other latin-alphabet languages are less lucky (read: French) since there the accents have a far greater semantic meaning.
