What does food do?

I see that you have to give food to your party members, but do you use food to heal your characters, or is it that you have to keep your food bar full or you die/take damager over time.

This game is based on Dungeon Master where you have to keep your characters fed or they die. So in other words.... food keeps you alive.

Considering they mention that you could get your characters to maximum level I suspect there is an infinite food room (just like you could find in Dungeon Master).

Supplying your party with food determines their health regeneration. If you don't eat, you don't recover.

IIRC from reviews, if you let your characters go hungry, they'll miss more of their attacks as well.

I'm sure it also affects mana regeneration or even the effectiveness of spells.
