in preview mode (level editor) items don't appear in alcoves

in preview mode (level editor) items don't appear in alcoves

I'm using the level editor to create my own map, but items don't seem to be appearing in alcoves!
help please!

after selecting an item to add you have to actually click on the "add item" button nearby
