Aye, the Uggardian from the Holy Scriptures room holds the Ornate key to enter the Outer Sanctum, so it must be killed.

Nice job dealing with those Ice Lizards! Keep in mind they are respawned every time you re-enter their area by invisible pressure plates! Make sure you got everything to reach and go past the Crystal room once the central chamber opens up, otherwise you will need to backtrack and deal with more Steaks-on-Legs.

only a couple are respawned though, and only after 400 seconds from the last respawn. The two plates are at 23,2 (just in front of the door, respawns one lizard), and 30,13 (hallways heading toward outer sanctum, respawns two lizards)

Thanks, I forgot about that since the trap turns off after you complete it once! Thankfully I've been using several saves so there wasn't too much to redo to catch up and try that. It worked great too.
I was fully prepped for the crystal, and even got the fire orb just because.

Level 9

The halls work great against ice lizards; right when they turn at the corner, run straight through and you'll nail them with Toorum. Telefragging the Uggardians was a bit tricker but still not too bad. Luring them, though, is a serious pain. They love to strafe back and forth constantly instead of going down corridors, and I never learned what triggers the ice lizard respawning.
The rest of the level was pretty trivial, besides more Uggardian trolling. While I lured the first ogre to the pit puzzle, a Uggardian snuck into the path to the crystal, I panicked a bit and turned the wrong direction and got trapped between two Uggardians.
Level 10 is where I'm starting to worry about the enemies being too hard to deal with out of shear speed. I haven't tried it yet but my last playthrough of four mages had a terrible time against the insects and Level 1 Toorum probably will not fair better.

You could just use the console to reasonably award yourself a ton of XP due to the fact that sneaking around and accomplishing what you've done merits reward even if the original game wasn't set up that way.

Actually I think the only rough thing to do is to lock away the enemies in the starting room. Once the Inner Sanctum is open and the teleporter there is activated you can telefrag anything. Plus: the lightning trap later on supplies another means to get rid of monsters. The only thing you should not do is fall into any pit because there are too many creatures inside to out-run them.

There's nowhere to lock them, unless you want to lock them into the staircase hallway, which sounds impossible.
I spent today trying to kill some bugs. I weakened two appreciably. This is not entirely encouraging though, as they can kill me in 3 hits from full health, and can perform 3 attacks in less time than it takes me to go up stairs. I still need to figure out how to get them hit by a Uggardian fireball without killing me first.

Aye, the staircase hallway and it's mirrored counterpart; the level 10 entry hall is layed out (almost) symmetrical.

The problem is that each hallways is opened/closed with a lever on one end and a red gem/pressure plate combo on the other. Sliping thru the lever-doors while fliping the lever beside it requires some practice while the combo-lock doors require speed and timing.

Haven't been able to work on this much till today, and after quite a bit of trying I finally made some actual progress.

Level 10
SpoilerShow
The majority of time, still, has been spent on the first area with the two round keys. After forever I managed to get the two bugs killed by the nearby Uggardian. Then I did it again for the bug in the far round-keyhole spot. I used the nearby round-keyhole at this point and funneled enemies in through the staircase passage/red crystal gate, so I could force them to come one at a time. Somehow the raptor was the first to follow me, he died easily to the Uggardian, then after an excessive number of tries I managed to kill one of the bugs with the Uggardian (used another fireblade shot to weaken it first). The second one was much easier to deal with at this point since I could go up to it in an open area. Bugs are insanely lethal on hard, and seem to react almost instantly to anything head-on. If you manage to do an L around them when they're chasing you, though, they usually hesitate a second or two making it possible to hit them then keep running. With that I managed to weaken the second one without resorting to the fire blade again.
The next part involved a little bit of running around and then I had access to telefragging. The rest of level 10 wasn't too bad at this point. I managed to actually dash past the crabs somehow and grab the shield of elements, it took about three tries. The lightning trap made a great enemy killer as well. I toyed with the idea of landing on top of slimes and nabbing the icefall hammer but eventually decided not to, but I still made a run down there to grab more healing stuff.
Honestly the rest of the level was kinda fun once the early part was dealt with, I solved the pillar puzzle while dodging an ogre, then danced around a bit to get past all the Goromorgs, then killed most of them with the lightning trap. Eventually I got the key, made a little safe haven at the stairs/save crystal, and moved on.
Level 12/13
SpoilerShow
I've chipped away at this some, I'm gonna call it a day for the moment though. I've collected a couple gears so far, and I've managed to fall onto two bugs and telefrag two enemies (I'm not sure which!) so far. This part is a bit frustrating with the highly random teleporter and no reliable way to predict where the bugs are. I haven't tried killing any enemies with friendly fire yet because I am by far the squishiest thing around and it's too crowded - I die in one hit to Wardens sometimes. I've been having no real trouble avoiding surrounds on level 12 at least, but level 13 is pretty tough to deal with.
The end's in sight and I'm pretty confident the rest can be done, it's just gonna take me some effort to finish this!

Franticly.
SpoilerShow
Also with a speed ring, speed potions, health potions, and lightning bombs. I'm not really scared of the cube itself!
... I probably should be using these 7 freeze bombs I'm still lugging around.
Aaaaand run complete! Except for that single herder on level 4, there are no kills I recieved EXP for.

... I was diseased until just a moment ago too, that apparently wore off a second before I took the picture.
SpoilerShow
Not much to add. I went into the final fights very well prepared, only thing I would've liked were a couple more speed potions or a lot more lightning bombs. There was a LOT of running around on my part since the level was full of enemies (go away bugs!), managed to still dismember the cube fine though. I used a total of 8 healing potions I think, and eventually I got the cube alone in a corridor and it didn't survive long after that.
