Unwrapping in blender
Unwrapping in blender
Hello
Anyone haveing problems unwrapping models in blender? I do the smart unwrap and nothing shows up in the uv image editor in blender.
I am having trouble doing that with my materializer monster.
I will post a pic of the monster here soon I hope.

Re: Unwrapping in blender
smart UV unwrap will only work for really simple shapes.
for more complex shapes (like your monster) you need to define the seams and manually unwrap it.
There are alot of tutorials on the internet that go into UV mapping for blender, I would watch them, the original monsters in LoG are more or less seamed down the middle front so the left and right side are mirrored in the UV (the arms are also mirrored etc)
this is a process thats hard to explain in words, taking a look at video tutorials is your best bet I would think.

K thx
When I do regular unwrap it says scale is not 1.0.
Do you know what that means?

You have to apply the objects scale first.LordGarth wrote:K thx

In object mode, got to object menu > apply > scale (other opts here)
You can observe scale, rotation by press N in 3D-view, this opens the right sidepanel with all infos about the mesh.

I am making my own 1024 by 1024 material and doing guess work until I find where everything is. Not too bad so far.

Re: Unwrapping in blender
You have to go into edit mode (tab = toggles), choose UV - Editor screen (pulldown on top left), then select ALL (a - key).
In UV Editor, create a new image (bottom left), go to the right part of window, Bottom menu > mesh > uv unwrap > unwrap.
Ready to go!
Don´t forget to save the image (bottom left menu).

Re: Unwrapping in blender
Thankyou that is very helpful
Now one of my unwrap wont export. I guess it is really complicated. Blender just freezes up and says not responding. I give the program like 10 minutes but it never exports the png file.
