3d Model Software
3d Model Software
Hello all,
What 3d modeling software is everyone using?
Blender is the one I am using but I am looking for something else.
Thx,

Wings3d for meshes and UVmap, blender for exports and various things that I can't do as easily with wings including mathematical rotation

Re: 3d Model Software
I use Blender for creating meshes and UV unwrapping, I use Photoshop for textures and then Blender again for UV mapping.
If I need to animate something, I create the mesh in Blender, then move the obj into 3d max where I rig it, animate and then use wallasaurus max scripts to export the model and animation to LoG native formats.
I also have an old program called Vue 5 that I picked up on sale many years ago, it has a fantastic alghorithm to generate trees and flowers and I use that to generate the mesh (like the pinetrees in yuleland) but after that I work with the mesh in Blender.

What format for exporting animation is needed to work with Grimrock?

Re: 3d Model Software
I would also be interested in good free software for doing animations, not that I understand anything about that yet, since I figure blender could do it maybe.
Re: 3d Model Software
Ha! Blender can do it very well. Mostly all what 3dsmax can do. But there is no good animation export to Grimrock yet.BuzzJ wrote:I would also be interested in good free software for doing animations, not that I understand anything about that yet, since I figure blender could do it maybe.
Wings3D - yes, agood tool to make lowpoly objects, at first i used it beside blender. But as experience grows, i can do all things better in blender yet.
Learning blender may be a bit tougher, but it´s worth it, really!
It could be a good idea to contact one of the coders at the blender community if one can do such exporter to grimrock.
I will try that, who knows?

I read this a lot but every time I try it again I just wonder how did the devs get the idea that the left mouse click should be used this way in blender...germanny wrote:Learning blender may be a bit tougher, but it´s worth it, really!
How are you supposed to figure that selecting an object is done with the right click ?
Did some commercial company has a patent on "selecting an item with the left mouse button" ?
Blender is in no doubt a great program but if I'll have to relearn all basic actions in order to use it efficiently.
I started modelling with Milkshape 3D and then used GMax a lot years ago and I am now used to this kind of GUI and short cuts.
I prefer to stick to old version of 3DSmax for now and I'll try learning sculpting programs like sculptris (which is free) or trying Mudbox and Z-brush.
