Hello, I'm hunting down the mysterious "out of memory" bug which seems to happen randomly on some Macs. I think I know what is causing the issue but unfortunately I can't verify it without some help.
The bug does not happen on any Mac here at the office, so we are looking for a kind person who could help in testing a patch. So if you can reproduce the "out of memory" error on a Mac and would like to help us, please reply to this post.
You would need to download the patch, install it using the Terminal by overwriting your original grimrock executable (of course after backing it up first!) and play the game to see if the "out of memory" error is fixed.
[Mac] Testers needed to help with "out of memory" bug
Re: [Mac] Testers needed to help with "out of memory" bug
I'll gladly take up the task. I managed to get this error once and reported it, so its reproduction is sporadic at best.
PM me with the details. I've been using command-line systems for 15 years, so your description doesn't have to be too detailed

Re: [Mac] Testers needed to help with "out of memory" bug
In order to verify that the fix works we would first need to be able to reproduce the problem with the current version. Could you test if the problem occurs with your current version if you repeatedly start a new game, start a custom dungeon, start a new game, etc.? Please check that texture resolution is high and rendering quality is high to maximize memory consumption.
I don't know exactly what triggers the bug (or if it is completely random). Restarting the game may also affect it.
Thank you very much for your help!

Thank you for letting me test this.petri wrote: Thank you very much for your help!
Ok, I can now consistently get "not enough memory" error. I got it 5 times in a row now. Shutting down/rebooting does not affect the issue.
Setting every parameter to high seems to be a factor here. There is ~/Library/Application Support/Almost Human/Legend of Grimrock/erros.log file, but it contains just two lines. The first says "not enough memory". The second line is empty.
I can spend some time and find out if just setting texture resolution is sufficient to get the crash or other parameters must be set to high as well.
Reproduction:
1. start new game, walk around for couple seconds
2. load save from level 10, walk around for couple seconds
3. load save from level 6, walk around for couple seconds
4. load save from level 12, walk around for couple second
5. click load game
Not sure if that is of significance, but the saves were made on Windows.
Sometimes I get "not enough memory" in step 4. I also reproduces after shutting down the system and booting fresh. There are no other apps running.
My spec: MC516 (MacBook mid-2010), 2GB ram, OS X 10.6.8, GeForce 320M with 256MB ram, resolution 1280x800.
LOG1 setup: display mode: full screen (1280x800), render quality: high, texture resolution: high, filtering: high, shadow quality: high, SSAO: off.
LOG1 version 1.3.6 (the latest from steam, which seems to be the same as mac_beta).
Ok, I think I'm ready to test updated version.

This is great news! I mean, that you can repro the issue gives me hope that I can finally fix this long pending bug.
Unfortunately I'm already out of the office for the weekend but I'll send you a patch on Monday.
