Beginner tactics?

Post by darinb »

Hi,

I'm new to the game and am on Level 3 and having a tough time killing the spiders. A big part of the problem is a lack of knowledge on how the game works (by searching here on the forums I've discovered that you actually have to move the party with keystrokes during battle--oh!) I'm using the default party. I even glanced at a walkthrough which describes the spiders as weak but dangerous because of the poison. That's news to me. (And speaking of poison, how do I counteract it? Is there a basic game guide out there aside from the walkthroughs (spoilers!) and the minimal manual?

Struggling forward...

Thanks,

Ranged weapons can help (missile, throwing for rogues and spells for mage & bombs for any characters)

For sure u can always use the hit and strafe or hit & back tactic. U can also use doors as shield the time ur party can attack again.

Be sure that u always have the best gear equipped vs ur skills. Mixing potion can help. Resting will cure & heal u. Crystal ...

It is not so tough once u start playing. For sure, dispatching the skill points properly once u level is a must.

There are many many post in the general discussion about how to optimize ur party.

The most important is to have fun in the end

A few tips...

1. Make sure you play on Easy if you're new to this type of game.

2. Using the keyboard to move around, strafe and backpeddle away from enemies' facing to avoid taking hits.

3. You learn the recipe for antivenom potions on level 2 I believe. It's simply a flask and a cave nettle. Crystals also remove poison, as does time. Resting usually recovers health faster than the poison damages you, but food may become an issue if you use this tactic too frequently.

O.K., as soon as I wrote the original post I started having better luck with the spiders. I confess I really don't like the the hit and run keyboard interface but I guess that's part of the retro aspect. Strangely it reminds me more of some modern consul games where complex finger presses are more of an asset than other game playing skills! :)

I press on toward level 4!

Thanks,

the Hit-and-strafe tactic is intentional and even needed on some situations where you cannot face too many enemies at once.
