Missing a step with hudPrint?
Missing a step with hudPrint?
I can't seem to figure out how to make the hudPrint function operate only when I want it to. (Lets say hooked up to a pressure plate or something)
I know I'm missing something, I've seen it done in games before.
I hope it doesn't require 'if then' scripting.

Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
I have my hudprint scripts as such:
And then theyre just tied normally to a hidden pressure plate:
Event - Activate
Target - ScriptName (intro)
Action - Intro
Code: Select all
function intro()
hudPrint("Those purple cladded people seemed unhinged.")
hudPrint("More to the point, this doesnt look like any kind of sewer..")
hudPrint("It looks like a...")
endEvent - Activate
Target - ScriptName (intro)
Action - Intro
Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
Ohh. I don't have a function bracket.
All my prints are happening at the same time without trigger. lol
Thanks, this helps me understand the language a bit better.
You know the saying novice programmer? Yeah I'm lower than that. I really only understand things that are already done for the most part, and from finished code I can make new stuff. I am learning though.
Edit: You know, I was wondering why it didn't want me to type the word end on the following line, haha.
-After implementation: This works well. It'll help me explain the story in a more personal level as opposed to just scattering notes everywhere. -my dungeon features first person narration, so the adventurer is YOU!

Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
Haha were all in it together. My last 'programming' experience was HTML and C+ from way back 2004 and I hadn't touched coding since
But yeah Function brackets and end parameters are what catch me out too.

Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
My last programming experience was a visual basic course I barely paid attention in.
There was a running gag where we'd use me.close for buttons that were supposed to advance our programs.

Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
While on the topic of hudPrint and text in the dungeon.
Is there any way to alter the quality of the text being displayed in a particular instance?
Lets say you wanted a word italicized? or bolded, or larger font?
Or for the more advanced, adding a custom font such as Chiller?
Font colour (could be used for a colour coded riddle)

Oh wow. Old thread!
I think the official statement is now, and it'd be difficult to achieve.

Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
You can do a little variance with gui text, font size and color, but not italics or anything else. You can always show images, so you could make an entire font of image files and code it to piece them all together, someone will probably do that at some point
Finished Dungeons - complete mods to play
Re: Missing a step with hudPrint?
Toorum's Quest II has a custom font like that
