Still not Multilanguage Version ?

Post by Damonya »

I see you already preparing version 2 of grimrock. But still no official version 1, other than English?

For my part I am French and Grimrock was highly rated among all journals testing games. Proof, it is just behind minecraft. And yet the French do not buy this game (unlike minecraft). Why? Simply because they expect a French version. A tip from frenchy, if you want to make more money, translate a French version (and other language) before starting the version 2, this would not require so much work that it. And as a modder, made a version of the editor that allows unicode accents.

I'm not talking about unofficial versions, but an official version, clearly visible, such as on steam. (there is no unofficial version in French anyway, it was abandoned, it seems.)

And you already have the manual translated: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=385
So why ? You have everything to gain. Not a lot of work for you. Recruit a bilingual translator for a week and you earn 250 million potential customers in the world who have French as their mother language.

Thank you for this wonderful game (and I'm one of the few French still playing in English)

There's several things in programming that are simply not easily added after the fact: Multiplayer. Security. Localization. All of them are possible to do, but the result is often ugly, unstable, and more complicated than it has to be.

The changes also touch lots of places in code, and thus require much more testing.

I understand that this is not as simple as it seems. This requires eg unicode version, and especially because you are a small production, but you are bound to win this effort, any game producer will tell you.
Inevitably you will come one day, and the sooner the better. In 1 or 2 years it'll be too late, and the popularity of grimrock will fell, people move on to something else. Today, the expectation exists.

Do not make the same mistake as stardock production who translated their very popular games too late ("sin of solar" and "galactic civilizations") and who later deeply regretted. Since they no longer make this mistake.

Sorry for this form of lobbying, as you probably know already.
