Bug Toorum level 9

I'm playing a second time as Toorum. On level 9 there is a door behind which is the book of infinite wisdom. I can take the book but the side doors do not open. Is it a bug or am I missing something? I searched several sites and can't find an answer.

there are three sides to that square, and you are on the south side. All three alcoves must be empty, so you'll need to work your way back around to the east and north sides to remove the items from the other two alcoves and leave them empty.
