When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
LOG1 took about 1 year to be finished but it was made from scratch. Now the developers can use the engine from LOG1, change it little bit but i guess its mostly done. So what is needed is level design, new graphics and monsters but i think the most of programming is already done. So how long it takes to finish the game? We can have it on Christmas 2013?
Re: When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
With indie games, where the creators number maybe a handful of developers and talented programmers that collaborate to make a special game like LoG(which happens to occur once every 100 years), we'd be lucky to get it by 2030. You see, the wonderful thing about indie developers is they set their own deadlines. There's a game called Bioshock:Infinite that is out right now, on PC, Xbox360, and PS3 and many clones like it are out, or are going to come out, and each has their respective due date. I suggest trying to play one of those games, and maybe by the time you're done with all of them LoG2 will be done. Thanks, Have fun!

what the heck? AH has proven themselves, and they know how to set internal deadlines and get work done. That being said, I'm guessing end of 2013 at best, more likely spring/summer 2014

Re: When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
I beated Bioshock Infinite already - cool game. Now I am ending Crysis 3. And yesterday I finished LOG1 again - this is the prove for me how good the game is, because i dont play many games twice. I am also playing with editor so I have things to do, but I like the dungeon crawling games so much. Thats the reason why I was asking about the time when the game will be finishedSamuruzi wrote:With indie games, where the creators number maybe a handful of developers and talented programmers that collaborate to make a special game like LoG(which happens to occur once every 100 years), we'd be lucky to get it by 2030. I agree that AH showed how to develop a game. But i was wondering if it couldnt take less time now to end LOG2 when they have some code written already from LOG1. You guess spring 2014? OMG thats such a long timeKomag wrote:what the heck? AH has proven themselves, and they know how to set internal deadlines and get work done. You could import your final party into Master Quest in the mean time

Re: When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
Don't forget that the game may end up much bigger than LoG. Now the studio has money and so they have time. They will probably aim to deliver a TON of content so players can really say "Yes, it's not just LoG over again". The more time you have, the better your game can be. For an indie studio, releasing is probably only for when you have no more ideas easy enough to integrated or when you start running out of money.
Re: When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
I think it's safe to bet that Almost Human will be making a larger game, but they picked up Jyri to help with environments and other visual stuff, which helps with deadline meeting.
Almost human worked really fast as a team of four, and will probably work fast as a team of five as well.
Official start of LoG2 development was announced as Feb 1 2013
I think they're likely to try and release it shortly after Christmas, or early April.
This is not unreasonable, I don't think.
I want the game to be right, not rushed.
I fucking hate art that suffers for deadlines. (Obviously empty promise of everything you want but never delivers is bad too, but I feel the sacrifice of quality for impatient customers is much worse.)
The only worse I think are sequels that are made when something with no intention of a sequel gets one. (I.e. Taken was a great action movie. Taken 2 in concept alone fills me with rage.)
P.S.
One more thing to consider is that even though idie developers set their own deadlines, they do still have a limited source of funds that must both ensure that the five of them are paid, and that the company can continue in the unlikely even that LoG2 bombs.

Re: When is the LOG2 going to be finished?
And of course programming wise AH may be spending their time on new features of the engine itself, porting to new platforms or adding support for new hardware (oculus rift, anyone?). Also, expanding LoG 1 engine is not as simple as many may think. With each extra feature added, the effort required for regression testing if all previous features are still working is increased. The same holds true for each additional operating system supported.
I just wanted to add my voice to many who said that before: AH, take your time. Release LoG2 when it's done, not earlier. We'll wait.
