Downloading mods - pita!

Post by SlimShokk »

Hello,

it seems nexusmods and steam have an iron grip on the mod files.

1.
Nexusmods greedily wants to charge you for registering.

2.
If you bought grimrock directly from gromrock.net, intending most of your dough going to the develoeprs,
you are punished because some people hate steam for good reasons of freedom and privacy.
And on top of that, steam seems to prevent
mod access in the workshop unless you bought it from them.

Congratulations, a great setup to p* one off!

I suggest mod developers use other platforms, maybe moddb.com or something, isntead of this ****.

regards,
Slim

Umm, nexus is absolutely free to use and download from. you can donate or contribute, or i believe even get a "premium" account, but none of that is necssary to DL the mods from there.

Registering on and downloading from nexus was and is free of charge so i have no idea what you are talking about.

It sounds obvious enough to me that if you want access to LoG's Steam Workshop you need to have the Steam version of LoG. I also don't see what you mean by "freedom" regarding Steam but if it's "privacy" you want simply disable Steam's community part or switch it to off-line mode.

I have reservations about steam, but I see no reason why they should open the 'steam' workshop to people who didn't buy from them. And as everyone said nexus is free, the only thing I wonder is what premium is for. Doesn't look to do a hell of a lot.

As far as i understand it steam workshop exchanges files with it's own steam interface. Any up- and downloads are done via this interface which non-steam game versions simply don't have and i see no way to add it in by yourself.

Okay, time to help out.
If you bought the game from this website, directly from the devs, you still get a Steam key.
You can take that steam key and activate your game to gain access to the workshop goodies.

A lot of people keep coming back with claims that Nexusmods is charging money to make accounts.
This is not true, but it is a growing concern of mine that Nexusmods is making the free sign up hard to find.

Upon clicking the register button, you are greeted with a page of purchasable options.
But as it says at the top of that form,
Select any packages you would like to purchase. You will be directed to the payment screen once your account has been created and you have logged in.
You do not have to purchase a package to complete registration.
You can make the account without ticking any of those boxes :)

I seem to be having an issue with Steam downloads right now. I have always just clicked subscribe and they show in my my custom dungeon list (last one was skuggsavienn's Tomb of Zarthos on 8/11), but this weekend I subscribed to a few but they never showed up. Not sure what has changed and I am logged in. Had to go to nexus for Hotel Hades 2, but that site is really slow on my computer.

Indeed, I purchased directly from AH, so cannot post my mods on steam :x

Huh? As Neikun said you should have gotten a steam key too so all you need to do for workshop access is to register that key.

Hehe, I quoted myself. Is that narcissistic or what?

The downloading issue seems to be fixed with the latest patch that Steam did a day or two ago. I was able to subscribe to a couple dungeons and test it out this morning.

It would appear from reading a few of the posts this morning that some other links may have become non functional in the process though. Might be worth taking a few minutes and checking any links a person may have on Steam.
