Trap Detection

Post by chaoscommencer »

Hello, just curious if anyone has done any work on designing trap/secret doors/buttons detection? This would fit in quite well with standard D&D mechanics; and currently in the game, it's all on you to spot them, when you have a four-member party (at least three other pairs of eyes). I've considered a couple routes to achieving this such as spawning light/particle effects around such entities, when the party comes within a certain range. Of course this would happen by chance and not 100% of the time. The probability of detection would be based on some difficulty level assigned to each secret and on the highest level rogue among living rogues in your party and on the party's proximity to the secret. The problem is that this can get complicated fast, so I was wondering if someone had already designed such a system or was thinking of doing so or had any ideas to contribute to this method or alternatives. If anyone wanted to go ahead and program this, that would also be super cool ;) as I'm kind of bogged down with work atm.
Working on a dungeon that displays a massive collection of assets while sorting them into convenient reusable plugin format (concept from some of leki's mods). Will contribute some of my own models as well eventually and follow that with custom dungeon.
