Is it possible to give each hand its own cooldown?
Probably not; I wish it were though, as the EOB mods should have it.

*Also, my solution to the two handed weapon might need to be redone differently ~somehow. It is incompatible [currently] with swapping the weapon with another item. It all works fine until you try to trade it with a something on the mouse cursor. :(

**Aha... They call it an epiphany; I might be able to handle this in the weapon's onUnEquipItem hook... I was loathe to require code in every item in the game that one might trade the sword for. :o

There are working scripts for lifesteal out there (if you mean damaging a creature and being healed by it). Do a search for life leech or special weapon scripts.

In general there is no benefit.

Now there are a few mods like ORRR2 that feature weapon sets consisting of a main weapon and a side weapon that when wielded together offer quite some benefits.
