Map Suggestion For Legend of Grimrock (... er, 3 since it's

Post by Sir Tawmis »

... probably too late!)

So, I love the in game map - but the ONE suggestion I would make is - where the letter of the note you leave, be whatever KEY you enter. So, maybe press "N" to leave a note, then it asks what letter or number the note can be, with a sub box with a description.

The reason I say this - for example, in the Archive room in LOG1, I was mapping where the teleporers take me - but they all have the initial letter of "N" - so I have to hover over each note to see where my "A" notes are ("A" teleport teleporting me to location "A" and such).

Am I making sense? So that way you could look at the map and see notes that say "A", "B", and know that perhaps "A" and "A" elsewhere on the map is teleporter locations.

Yeah you made sense.
Displaying the first letter you would have 26 characters + special characters to mark Teleporters and other points of interest.
It probably would also help to colorcode them. the first click could be red, then green and then yellow and so on and so forth.

It could be really cluttered though when you would show more then the first letter, because i guess you wouldn't see the map anymore due to all the notes ;)

Hmm, I like this suggestion, or at least some sort of variation of it - something to differentiate notes on the map. :)

That's a neat idea. Even just having the ability to use the up/arrow keys to change the colour of the note icon would be cool. My notes tend to fall into certain categories and it would be nice to differentiate between them.

This idea reminds me of the automap of Ultima Underworld
There you could freely write everywhere on the map which allowed to write notes as long as there was room.

The same with Stonekeep; there you could rewrite the entire journal. What was in the book was written the same way the player would write it; and with an animated quill pen!

Aye, a straight copy from UU with the difference that in UU the quill was white ;)

My thought was like Wizardry 7, which I am not sure when it falls in relation to what games were released and who did it first. (I was just a Wizardry-Addict for many years!)

The Realms of Arkania series had a beautiful mapping system too.
