Party creation and background stories in LoG 2

Post by Sarumorpheus »

Hello there. How's everyone doing?

I'm looking forward to Legend of Grimrock 2, as you all undoubtedly are :P, and I've been thinking about party creation and potential main characters' background stories...

According to what is implied so far, this time around our heroes are actually survivors of a shipwreck. They end up on a mysterious island and have to fend for themselves, finding greater and greater horrors as they move on, everything eventually culminating in something aw-inspiring. That sounds incredibly cool! I've always enjoyed the feeling of hopelessness gradually turning into greatness (as is conveyed in the first game, i.e., a ragtag bunch of prisoners being thrown into a labyrinth nobody has ever emerged from and ending up

defeating the Undying One
), and this installment in the series definitely seems to be delivering something among those lines as well.

Now, I for once really enjoy giving the main characters some extra flare in terms of their individual (and/or collective) stories in these types of games where you can create your own character(s). Nothing too excessive, simply some background and on-going thoughts/descriptions that help the feeling of immersion vastly. Therefore, I was thinking it could be fun to have a topic here in the official forums to share what types of groups people would like to create in Legend of Grimrock 2. I'm mostly referring from a roleplaying point of view, by the way, and not really on the more technical field of what classes, races, attacks, and spells work better together (Though it also interests me, but that's something for another thread ^^).

Here are some ideas I've had, assuming that the origins of the ship our heroes sail in are left open for interpretation:

1 - Ratling Pirate Party: This group would consist in four ratlings, all of whom part of the same only-ratling pirate crew. Their vessel crashed during a storm and all of their comrades are dead. Now stranded on a mysterious island, the ratlings must find a way to return to the mainland. These "heroes" would likely be rogues/thieves/gunsmen/rangers/assassins who value their own lives and treasures over the greater good. Perhaps one of them could be the captain, the one who would always get the better gear. :P Maybe there's a mutiny at some point and the other three refuse to help the captain in a certain fight, leaving him to die at the mercy of some giant shore crab and taking all his values afterwards! --- I understand this idea is not very original because there are already ratling pirates on the island, but I thought it would be fun nonetheless to actually be one of those pirate survivor groups. Besides, considering that the end-game involves doing something that will stop chaos from being released upon the world in one way or another, there's some sweet irony in a bunch of scumbags being the ones responsible for saving the realm! There were never true heroes on that island, only hordes of pirates and some of them ended up doing the right thing. :P

2 - Imperials + Prisoner Party: This group would consist in three people of the same faction (Imperial Army?) and a prisoner. The main hero would be a human female (a ranger, I'm thinking, or perhaps a water/air mage) who is some sort of general/noblewoman/imperial VIP. Another hero would be her personal bodyguard, a minotaur fighter/warrior/paladin, a loyal machine of pure brute force. The third would be the ship’s cook, a human/ratling male who also happened to survive the shipwreck! He would be the one cooking, carrying the food, herbs, brewing the potions, and so forth. Perhaps his class would be a rogue-type class? Finally, the fourth hero is a prisoner who would be an insectoid or a lizardman, either thief/assassin or some sort of dark magic class. Perhaps he was being taken to the Grimrock mountain when the ship sunk, and is now forced to work together with his captors to survive. This would sort of work like a second chance for him: the prisoner will attempt to redeem himself throughout the storyline and prove to be a reliable fellow.

Feel free to share your ideas here as well. Most of all, have fun. ^^

Edit: Also, thumbs up for LoG 2 being released on my birthday! :D

I've used the search function but could not find anything similar to this. Also, for whatever purposes, please note that this topic was created 2 weeks prior to game-release.
