Game crashes after few minutes

Post by Khamill »

Hi there
I got this problem. Game crashes every time i run it. I cannot even pass the turtles, the screen just freezes and I'm forced to alt+ctrl+del, on top of that every quicksave attempt kicks me out of the game as well. All drivers r up to date and laptop im using isnt that ancient i guess:) Oh yea and i tried all setings and its same story everytime. Generaly it runs smooth but just crashes:(
insiron i7
AMD radeon hd 7730M
8gb ram
any help appreciated.

Sounds like your GPU overheats and then locks up.
Since it's not the strongest GPU (a tad above game min req) it's unlikely that it goes beyond 60 fps (check if you like) so it's prolly time to clean the GPU fan or cooling unit of your laptop.

Guessing is not enough, better check the FPS by setting "debugInfo" in the "grimrock.cfg" "from "false" to "true". If your graphic card is dying trying to throw out 120fps reduce this unneeded amount to a more reasonable ~40fps with the "maxFrameRate = 40" parameter. Also consider reducing the resolution/quality.

As if a 7730M could get near any of those numbers ..
That mobile chip has less rendering power then your 5670 and you suggest an FPS you own GPU can't deliver.

I suggest:
1.) knowledge before guessing, measure the FPS!
2.) if possible, reduce unneeded burden on the system to cool it down (like throwing out frames no one can see)

Already suggested that yesterday ...

There is no "unneeded burden" in a system that just passes the games gpu min req mark.

We don't know how this system combination performs... also the LoG2 GPU recommendation is not some hard fact (beside capabilities) but an guess. Also, the frame rate of the LoG2 engine is very fluctuating; in the beginning part I got more FPS than necessary (>60FPS) which just lead to system heat up. Cut them away and enjoy reduced power bill and cooler system.

Ever heard of a setting called Vsync? It got invented to deal with such "problems".
Go inside your video driver, find this setting, set it to "On" and this "problem" is history forever.

no, vsync was invented to prevent screen tearing. Also, we don't know if v-sync is enabled. Also, the framerate limiter gives a more fine grained control, 30-40 fps are for an non first-person-shooter game also OK (another 50% more power saved and heat reduced).
