That depends on your definition of what is "necessary". If you feel like you haven't completed the game unless you have picked up every root, piece of meat, and whatever trash off the ground you find, then I get your point. Have you ever done the digging mini game in Zelda - A Link to the Past? It's so annoying trying to dig up that random heart piece... and you want to do it to the whole game instead of a small closed of area?
