Post by Till »

Hello everyone!

Today is my first free evening since the release of Grimmrock 2.
That's why I am very diasappointed, when the game freezed to death again and again.
Just nothing is moving, but the sound is playing. I waited like 10 minutes, but nothing changed.

sounds like the infamous GPU overheating problem which plagues the grimrock engine.

Check your GPU temperature with GPU-z.

Try to reduce the resolution to reduce the burden on the GPU, enable v-sync and limit the frame per second in the grimrock.cfg.
There are several threads here, whcih desribe how to do that.

PS: and report this problem via email to the AH support...

You have one of these CPU's
Intel® Core™ i3-3110M processor, 3 MB, 2.4 GHz
Intel® Pentium® processor 2020M, 2 MB, 2.4 GHz
Intel® Core™ i7 processor
so it's one of those GPU's
Intel® HD Graphics or HD Graphics 3000 (depending on CPU)
This means it's a CPU-build-in GPU and even in the best case it's one that does not even deliver 50% of the games minimum required graphics performance. First thing i'd do is to check that the cooling system is in top working condition.

Next grab a tool like FRAPS to see how many frames per seconds are rendered. Report back how many you get.

Thanks for your help!
I downloaded GPU-Z and looged the files. The temperature of the GPU was nearly the same as when Im playing nothing (50°C without the game, 52° while crashing; the highest temperature while the game worked was 56°).

I downloaded Fraps and it showed me nearly all the time ingame a score between 15 and 30.

These temperatures seem absolutely fine, nothing to worry about.
The framerate is as low as expected so limiting fps in "grimrock.cfg" won't help at all.

Do you get any error messages we can go after?

EDIT
How are these other values in GPU-Z: GPU Load, PerfCap Reason, Power Consumption

Setting debuginfo=true in grimrock.cfg file does display fps. No need for FRAPS.
Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
GeForce GTX 970 (Gigabyte)

I know but i wanted to spare him the need to hack around in LoG2's config file.

Thanks for your help!
GPU Load ingame: 65 - 80
GPU Load without playing: 0 - 2
I cant find values named PerfCap Reason, Power Consumption =/ .

Yeah, I got 3 error messages; all were different. But I got none message when the pc get frozen.

When the GPU-Z Sensors i asked for are missing the video driver prolly does not support or report them, so ignore this.

This "D3DError - Present() failed: E_FAIL" is something new, never seen that one before. Microsoft has this about it: "E_FAIL An undetermined error occurred inside the Direct3D subsystem." A classic MS error description I say; so helpful ..

Try the classic solutions then:
- update yout Intel HD Graphics driver to the latest version from the Intel website
- reinstall DirectX with the installer that came with the game inside the "_CommonRedist" folder

To select the correct driver you'll need to identify your CPU first. The CPU-Z tool will do this for you.
