[Fixed] Horribly blurry graphics

Post by weenarz1176 »

I am unable to play Grimrock 2 due to completely blurry graphics. I have tried to reset my parameters in ATI Catalyst Control Center, e.g., set Texture Filtering Quality to High Quality, but nothing seems to work. In addition, I have disabled Catalyst Control Center and rebooted, but that doesn't have any effect. I've followed a couple other suggestions in earlier threads to no avail. I'm not able to download the torrent-based Compatability Checker, as my computer thinks the executable has a virus. Any ideas would be most appreciated! Note that the blurriness is all-encompassing - no text can be ready and it's almost as if no texture mapping is occurring.

Thanks!

Blurry graphics can be caused by several things.

The most common prolly comes along with LCD or flatscreen displays: any resolution used that is not the native resolution of your display causes blur due to the display trying to match the to-be-displayed screen into it's pixel matrix.

Next most common is the use of FXAA, a quick-and-dirty AntiAlias method. When used with fine lines or very small text it can pretty much blur them entirely.

Next one specifically happening with LoG is the Catalyst driver. Its AntiAlias feature can cause havoc to the game so it's best to turn it off inside Catalyst.

If none of these does help you maybe a screenshot can give use a better clue on what might be wrong.

ATI Catalyst Control Center? Is it not called AMD now? Whatever, the reason is often indeed setting the mipmap levels manually, reseting should help... maybe try also a driver update, should reset the settings too. Third party tool like RadeonPro might help deactivating it too

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Here are a couple images. As you can see, the blurriness is beyond just edges of text or a lack of sharpness.

Not sure how to figure out if my resolution is out of synch, but I don't have this issue with any other games.

Thanks again!

I think you have the same problem as mine.

the only solution was to reset every parameters from catalyst. (search in your options). and everything was fine again...

Hi thanks.

Yes, I saw that suggestion from a previous post on the 4th page, and tried that earlier today. However, it didn't seem to have any effect. I also tried disabling Catalyst Control Center and starting up the game, but still no luck.

Thank you!

I used RadeonPro to reset the global settings, and that seemed to do the trick. Thank you for everyone's assistance!
