Level 2 Riddle

I am stuck on the riddle: Only a patient man can defeat Daemon's gaze.

I don't want to go to level 3 before figuring this out.

I am trying to go through the red door, and theres a pressure plate that doesn't seem to do anything. What am I missing?

As the riddle says, you've gotta be a patient man and wait. It's much more simple than you think. Also you might want to move when it opens.

Well after a while there was a big earthquake. I guess I keep waiting...?

Do I have to stand there or can I just leave an item on the plate?

The earthquake is unrelated. Also don't put an item on the plate. I'll try and give you a hint in the form of a smiley.
