Special attacks stopped working?

Hey! I just noticed that my lightning blade can't charge that special attack anymore. When i press left mouse down, nothing happens. While after this my crystal shield did the same thing, is this a bug or do they have some "hidden" charge thing etc?

You simply used up all charges of the Lightning Blade. Use a red crystal shard to recharge it.

Thanks man! I didnt know such a thing. Maybe i will reduce my special attack spam now

The presence of charges on an items is identified by a line of red dots beside the described "Special Attack". In general all melee weapons with a ranged "Special Attack" use charges.

Oh yeah i see now, i thought they work like a "normal" special attacks.
