D3DError - CreateVertexShader failed: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL

Hey guys, any ideas as to why i would be getting this error message when trying to run game - "D3DError - CreateVertexShader failed: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL"?

I've googled and looked at several forums and seen numerous references to D3DErrors with possible solutions but never this one, any help appreciated. I've updated all drivers, tweaked the 'grimrock.cfg' file (as below), due to the fact that textureResolution or textureFilter = nil previously which i believe is wrong. Ive tried displayMode on 2 and 3, doesnt work. It has actually loaded to opening menu screen just once on displayMode = 1, for about ten seconds!

My display resolution is as above, 1920 x 1080, it may just that my system is not beefy enough, although after some playing around the game did actually once get to the opening menu screen, hasn't since. My system details are summarised as follows:

It seems the ATI X1000 series does not fully support the Vertex Shader 3.0 model
In case LoG2 does require full vertex shader support (AH has to tell us) your card is not able to fullfill such requests from the game.

Wow - the X1950 is 8 years old now!

If it is an issue with the Vertex Shader not being supported on the card, it's possible that you might have some luck running the game in "low graphics" mode (which presumably use simpler shaders). I think you might be able to set that by putting "renderingQuality = 1" instead of 2 in the CFG file. Otherwise, try lowering all of the textureResolution / textureFilter / shadowQuality settings to 1 just to see if that gets you in the game again.
