I was about to post this as a reply to a topic about new GUIs, but I decided to make it a separate topic. I would love to see these ideas in a custom dungeon.
I find the current message scrolls in the game rather boring. We could use some magic scrolls that would work differently according to the person using it. For example if a non magic user would hold it he would see nothing. But if a magic user would hold it text would appear.
Also an animated scroll could be an option, where a quill moves over the scroll writing a message. Press Enter to speed it up.
The magic glasses that read hidden text like in the movie "National Treasure"
Turning a map scroll so it points to the north and put it on top of the map
A scroll with front and back side.
Holding a scroll against the light to see front and back markings at the same time. Without the light it is unreadable.
With grafite or charcoal move over a scroll to finds the imprint
Copying a wall mark on paper with graffite or charcoal
Self destroying messages. A closeby demon doesn't want you to find clues.
In the movie "Mortal Instruments" a special person could take a real object out of a flat picture.
So many options...

Re: Different message scrolls
Graphical additions to items --> awesome
How to do it? --> challenging
Someone with some graphical art skills could really go to town there. How could/would it be implemented into a mod created by the editor, tho?
