Extreme amount of work to recreate, and no one in particular is gung-ho enough to put in the 1000+ hours it would take over the next 12 months to do it. Hey, I would love it too! But I don't see it happening

Will you create a complete new game or Mod for Legend of Grimrock? I didn't understand.
If you create a mod you will need to create a lots of new wallsets as

Glad Stone Keep
Catwalk Caves
Mines (Already there is this wall sets)
White Tower
Forrest
Swamp
Scotia's Castle (Cimmeria Castle)
Scotia's Castle (Cimmeria Dungeons)
Daracle's Caves
Yvel City

I am creating the Eye of the Beholder 4 here and I have eat 10 years. (And is still not ready yet).

I liked LoL, it was (and it is) awesome game. But complete remake (with spelling system, tilesets and all game mechanics) is almost impossible. So if you wanna spend few months (or years) working on it I wish you good luck and I wanna play it after ! :)

It's a bit stuck right now. Because I need somebody to do the models but he's not avalaible, and neither do I. I still have this job in mind but it'll wait a little. ;)

Very good game! I played it many times, and i completed it twice (but with a walkthrough beside^^).

But if you want to bring it into LoG, you need a bigger team. No task for one person.
And modeling skill is absolute necessary, without this it won´t come out great. (i guess)

That's no understatement; also, as I understand it, the LoG engine cannot play cutscenes in the middle of the game on custom levels. LoL's entire story relies on the cutscenes ~unless the idea is just to replicate the maps. LoL has interactive dialog screens that can now be done in LoG, and the spells can be done (AFAIK), but it's a huge game.

I agree, the maps would be fun; the maps are pretty good in that game.

** For any here that don't know of this game first hand... It's available on GOG (bundled with LoL2).

Technically now it's possible, just use the GUI functions and draw full screen (or at least, as big as you can and fill black the rest). It's just to be done manually the hard way instead of relying on the easier syntax of intro/ending cutscenes.

Animated? (But not say... 1920x1080 uncompressed TGA frames.)

Yeah, it could be done as a slideshow; my recommendation would be to do the cutscenes the way Blood & Magic did it (though they used Smacker I believe).

Blood&Magic cuscenes were essentially a painting that starts out partially masked while the voice narrates the story, and gets progressively unmasked as the narrator mentions new elements of the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geP4ZsFYu3g

** What I would love to see in LoG2, or for LoG1, is Bink integration. ;)

Animated?
Well no of course! :) But neither are those in the intro and ending, I was referring as ingame compared to those, not as all cinematics compared to LoL ones.

Now, if I remember correctly all LoL animations were mostly a fixed scenario (with maybe some parallax scrolling) and some sprites animated over them.. which would be very very complex to implement but at least possible (probably not feasible, at least without tons of time and patience). But I could be wrong, it's some time since I last played it.

I think that you are right; complex but possible to do with scripted texture [or object] swapping. Most of the detail animation looks to have been done in deluxPaint and by carving and/or distorting a few illustrations rather than fully animating it at that level of detail ~in 2d.
